    Structure of New GMAT Exam

    The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is a computer adaptive test designed to assess the following areas for admission to graduate management programs, including MBA programs:

    • GMAT Quantitative section
    • GMAT Verbal section
    • GMAT Integrated Reasoning section (IR)
    • Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA)

    GMAT Exam Structure: Test takers have

    • 30 minutes for the analytical writing assessment and another
    • 30 minutes to work through 12 questions on the integrated reasoning section
    • 65 minutes to work through 31 questions in the quantitative section and another
    • 65 minutes to get through 36 questions in the verbal section.

    Total testing time is 3 hours 10 minutes

    Starting from February 1, 2024, the GMAT exam will feature a new format with three main sections:

    • Data Insights Section
    • Quantitative section
    • Verbal section

    GMAT Exam Structure: Test takers have

    45 minutes to work on 20 questions in the Data Insights section

    45 minutes to work on 21 questions in the quantitative section

    45 minutes to work on 23 questions in the verbal section.

    Total testing time is 2 hours 15 minutes

    Quantitative Section

    The Quantitative section of the GMAT consists of two types of quantitative questions

    • Problem solving and
    • Algebra and Arithmetic

    Verbal Section

    The verbal section of the GMAT exam includes the following question types

    • Reading comprehension
    • Critical reasoning

    Data Insights Section

    Dedicated Data Analysis Skills in Data Insights Section:

    • Data Sufficiency : Assessing quantitative reasoning and the ability to determine data sufficiency.
    • Graphics Interpretation : Evaluating the skill to interpret and draw inferences from graphical data.
    • Table Analysis : Measuring the capacity to extract pertinent information from sortable tables.
    • Two-Part Analysis : Investigating problem-solving skills through interrelated questions.
    • Multi-Source Reasoning : Assessing the aptitude to integrate information from diverse sources.

    Each question type gives five answer options from which to select.

    Verbal Reasoning

    Includes 14 questions and measures the ability to evaluate arguments and to read, understand, and edit written material using standard English.

    • Sentence Correction
    • Score Range - 1 to 20

    Quantitative Reasoning

    Includes 14 questions and measures the ability to analyze data and draw conclusions using arithmetic and algebra reasoning skills. The math skills required for this section are a secondary school level and no calculator is used.

    • Data Sufficiency
    • Problem Solving
    • Score Range - 1 to 20
    • 40 questions
    • 90 minutes

    TOTAL

    Score Range = 100–200

    90-minute exam includes 3 sections with 40 questions total

    Registration and fees

    To register a test date, create an online account with GMAC and pay the exam fee of $350 for the Executive Assessment.
